Rasam Rice

Rasam Rice

Ingredients

  • ½ cup rice
  • 2 tbsp toor dal
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped
  • 2 tbsp rasam powder
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • Small lemon sized tamarind
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • Few curry leaves
  • 2 dried red chillies
  • Coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. Wash rice and toor dal together and pressure cook until soft.
  2. Soak tamarind in warm water and extract the juice.
  3. In a deep pan, heat ghee and add mustard seeds, red chillies, garlic, and curry leaves.
  4. Add tomatoes, turmeric, rasam powder, and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Pour tamarind extract and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Add cooked rice and dal mixture with enough water to achieve a slightly flowing consistency.
  7. Simmer for 3 to 4 minutes, garnish with coriander leaves, and serve hot.
